Specimen characterisation – it is important to characterise test materials by measurements of porosity (helium porosimetry), mineralogy (XRD, optical microscopy and SEM), and microstructure (using optical thin secions) to aid interpretation of results of other tests.

Core photography – photographs of specimens will be taken before and after geomechanical tests as standard.

Density – bulk density measurements using calipers will be made as standard, and additionally gravimetric density can be measured.

Loss on ignition – organic content can be determined via loss on ignition methods. Thermogravimetry may also be supplied.

Sample preparation – we have a fully equipped sample preparation laboratory. Services that we can offer include: for plug drilling, core end preparation and preparing powder samples.
