UCAS visit days
Can't make the day?
A typical UCAS visit day normally starts at 10am and finishes at 4pm. The day provides an opportunity for applicants to take a tour of our teaching and research facilities and to listen to a detailed talk on his/her chosen degree. The day will also provide an opportunity for applicants to discuss their chosen degree course in more detail with both staff and students alike. We realise that the parents of applicants may also wish to take the opportunity to visit the university so we typically arrange a parallel programme for parents on the day.
The UCAS visit day also comprises of a 15 minute interview which will help us to assess an applicant’s motivation and interest in his/her chosen subject. Interviews will take place from 1pm on the day. The interview will also determine which candidates will become the recipients of our prestigious William Boyd Dawkins Scholarships. Recipients will be chosen each year in April from a pool of students who have accepted an offer with us (with the award being contingent on A Level results - 3 A’s at A level). The interview will also be important should an applicant’s results fall slightly short of their initial offer, as it will help us to allocate any available spaces we may have remaining on a particular course at the point of confirmation. The interview will also give applicants an opportunity to ask any questions they may have about their chosen degree course on a one-to-one basis with a specialised member of academic staff.
Appplicant’s invited to one of our visit days will need to confirm their attendance via UCAS. Once we have received confirmation of attendance from an applicant, we will provide a detailed schedule of the day’s events to each respective attendee. We will be running a number of visit days throughout the academic year.
