Get ahead and get a job
Our close links with industry open up many opportunities for you to gain some work experience and apply what you have learned on your course to real industrial problems.
Students usually take placements and internships before they start the final year of their course, either over the summer vacation or for a whole year as part of our ‘year in industry’ option.
You will find that work experience makes you stand out as a strong candidate when it comes to landing your first job. It shows you are motivated and hard-working and you have already demonstrated that you can apply your knowledge and understanding.
Work experience also helps you to develop the transferable skills that employers find so attractive. An industrial placement provides important opportunities to network which can be invaluable for finding jobs and getting support in your career.
You may find that you make such a positive impression during your placement that you are offered a position after you graduate.
Recent placements have included oil exploration activities and site investigations of contaminated land. We also ensure that you receive adequate support and mentoring during your placement so you can get the most out of the experience.
Our work experience programme is part of our comprehensive careers support service, provided through the School and The University of Manchester Careers Service.
