Imaging 3D Pore Structures and Mineralogy

Direct determination of the geometry and connectivity of pore networks in the 3D field is an important complement to bulk measurement of transport properties. Nanoscale resolution X-ray tomographic imaging of pore structures and cracks in small specimen is used both at Diamond and at the Henry Moseley imaging facility in Material Sciences at the University of Manchester. Standard SEM techniques are combined with element mapping to construct mineralogical images of shales and for the classification of lithofacies.
