public eng events

We regularly run events in and around Manchester and are continuously on the lookout for new and exciting venues to host events at, or large collaborative events to join. Here is a collection of highlights over the past few years:

Live from Jodrell Bank. The Transmissions are a series of one day festivals that combine music and science in the shadow of the iconic Lovell Telescope. Previous Transmissions saw Australian Pink Floyd, New Order, Sigur Ros and The Halle Orchestra performing on the main stage. The Science Arena has a wide range of hand-on activities and displays for visitors. We were one of the headline acts in the Science Arena at this unique event during summer 2013.

Stargazing Live at Tatton Park. The popular Stargazing Live TV programme has brought astronomy and planetary science to the forefront of public interest. Its scope reaches beyond ordinary TV viewing as it is accompanied by a series of publicly attended events across the country. We have previously taken part in an evening of activities aimed at a family audience at Tatton Park to accompany the programme.

Manchester Science Festival. The annual Manchester Science Festival is one of the largest science festivals in the UK, with a wide range of events and activities taking place across Greater Manchester over a 10 day period at the end of October. Centred around families, the programme includes science shows and hands-on activities, as well as an exclusive wide range of events for adults. Our team was involved with two hugely successful events during previous years: We ran a Planetary Odyssey event in conjunction with the Manchester Museum, and took part in The University of Manchester’s Science Spectacular which showcases the best research from across the University to local residents.

Many members of the group regularly give talks to local amateur astronomy and geological societies. We also visit and are visited by groups from secondary schools where we provide a mixture of talks and hands-on activities.
