Conservation Biology

Human societies depend on natural ecosystems to provide a range of vital services, such as carbon capture and the amelioration of the effects of anthropogenic climate change.

Our researchers apply the principles of ecology and evolutionary biology to monitor the responses of terrestrial and aquatic communities to a range of challenges including habitat loss, disease outbreaks and invasive competition.  Our research also informs wildlife management and conservation strategies and assists in the enforcement of prohibitions on the trade in endangered species.
