The Williamson Research Centre brings together earth, chemical and biological scientists in endeavours to understand the workings of the interacting geosphere-hydrosphere-biosphere-atmosphere systems at a molecular scale.
Facility for Airborne Atmospheric Measurement (FAAM)
The Facility for Airborne Atmospheric Measurement (FAAM) is the result of collaboration between the Met Office and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).
Advanced Isotope Geochemistry and Cosmochemistry suite
We are equipped with a range of unique and world leading instrumentation alongside state-of-the-art mass-spectrometric facilities. These include Thermo Scientific Helix and Argus Multi-Collector noble gas mass spectrometers, purpose-built Time- of-Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometers, Noble Gas Resonance Ionization mass spectrometers, and a NU Instruments Multi-Collector Inductively Coupled Plasma mass spectrometer. All these facilities are supported by Class 100 clean laboratories and a sample preparation suite.
Basins and Seismic Visualisation Suite
To support current research and teaching in the Basin Studies and Petroleum Geoscience, and to drive new research methodologies, we have a facility dedicated to the latest software and hardware solutions for seismic and visualization applications. With almost 25 Terabytes of seismic data from over thirty surveys around the world, and high resolution LIDAR surveys generating 100 Gb per month we possess the best storage, visualisation and processing kit available.
